Alabama Training Network Project Engineer - Quality Management/Quality Engineering State Wide

Develops and delivers training and technical assistance to business and industry, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing companies, particularly in the areas of quality systems and quality engineering.

This is a statewide position. The selected candidate will be assigned to an Alabama Training Network (ATN) office location based on proximity to an existing ATN office, including Alexander City, Birmingham, Cullman, Eufaula, Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery, Muscle Shoals, Opelika, Rainsville, Sumiton, or Thomasville. The employee is required to report in person to their designated office, except when traveling for ATN-related business.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

In addition to adhering to policies and procedures established by the Alabama Training Network (ATN), the host college, and the Alabama Community College System (ACCS), duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops and delivers technical assistance and training to business and industry clients, with a strong emphasis on manufacturing companies, particularly in the areas of Quality Systems and Quality Engineering.
  2. Leads and facilitates implementation of Quality Systems and Quality Engineering as part of assigned client projects, including planning, execution, and follow-through.
  3. Executes project work as assigned, delivering technical services in alignment with ATN standards, timelines, and client needs.
  4. Travels throughout the state of Alabama to deliver and support client projects. Frequent overnight travel and regular day travel are required; approved travel is reimbursed.
  5. Delivers in-person training and facilitation, including standing and presenting for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per day).
  6. Prepares reports, statistical data, and evaluative documentation to assess the effectiveness and impact of quality programs implemented for clients.
  7. Collaborates with ATN team members and Alabama Community College System partners to support integrated project delivery and statewide initiatives.
  8. Develops and maintains professional relationships with prospective and existing clients to support engagement, retention, and program success.
  9. Works independently with minimal supervision, exercising professional judgment in planning and executing assigned responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
(Supporting, administrative, or organizational functions)

  1. Submits required documentation and reports to the Team Director and/or Central Office in a timely manner.
  2. Participates in Continual Improvement Team activities and serves on ATN committees as assigned.
  3. Assists in the formulation and implementation of Continual Improvement Team product lines, operational improvements, and strategic planning initiatives.
  4. Coordinates with the Business Development Office to promote ATN services with civic, professional, technical, and industrial organizations.
  5. Collaborates and communicates effectively with employees of the host college.
  6. Utilizes enterprise planning resources (ERP), including NetSuite, to accurately record time and expenses in accordance with ATN requirements.
  7. Adheres to the ATN ISO Quality Management System guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  8. Maintains required professional credentials, and participates in meetings, conferences, and activities of relevant professional organizations as required.
  9. Assists the Business Development Office with relationship development and client engagement efforts.
  10. Works with clients to complete client satisfaction and impact surveys.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
  12. Maintains the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include occasional evening and weekend hours.

 

Education and Experience

 

Required:

Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution.

Substitution: A minimum of eight (8) years of full-time quality or continual improvement experience in manufacturing or industry may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

Experience

  1. Minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience in manufacturing or a related industry with a focus on Quality and/or Continual Improvement.
  2. Demonstrated experience applying quality engineering tools and methodologies in a manufacturing environment, such as:

PPAP, APQP, DOE, FMEA, SPC, MSA, Six Sigma

  1. Experience with quality management systems implementation and management, including one or more of the following:

ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100

  1. Experience with project management and the delivery of technical training in manufacturing or a related industry.
  2. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Excellent planning and organizational skills.

 

PREFERRED / DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience or working knowledge in one or more of ATN’s service delivery areas, such as:

Industrial Maintenance Technology, Lean Enterprise, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering / Technical Services, Leadership & Management, Food Industry or Agribusiness

Experience in business development, marketing, sales, or public relations, particularly in a technical or industrial services environment.

 

Supplemental Information

Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Training Network (ATN) Salary Schedule, T-3 ($66,411 – $108,987).

This is a statewide recruitment. The selected candidate will be assigned to an ATN office location based on their place of residence and proximity to an existing ATN office, which may include: Alexander City, Birmingham, Cullman, Eufaula, Gadsden, Mobile, Montgomery, Muscle Shoals, Opelika, Rainsville, Sumiton, or Thomasville.

Employees are required to report in person to their assigned office unless traveling for approved business-related purposes.

 A minimum of eight (8) years of full-time quality or continual improvement experience in industry or manufacturing may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
